PTA Club
students have big hearts
For the past four years,
students in the Physical Therapist Assistant Club have
donated a variety of equipment to the Pine Ridge Indian
Reservation in South Dakota. During this time, they have
refurbished a total of eight wheelchairs and given several
walkers and canes. The club chose the reservation because of
its isolation and the high diabetes rate of its residents.
This year, the students took their donations to another
level and are donating a wide variety of durable medical
equipment that is included in this photo. The donations are
arranged through Colorado Springs-based One Nation Walking,
a volunteer group that has a warehouse for
storing the items and a van to deliver them directly to the
reservation.
The PTA Club is involved with a second project this academic
year – a fund-raising drive to help PTA students attending
Delgado Community College in New Orleans, which had been
flooded during Hurricane Katrina. The club is raising funds
by selling beanie bag graduation doggies and conducting a
silent auction. The money will be sent to Delgado CC’s PTA
program to help cover the cost of lost textbooks, supplies,
etc.
