APTA/CO Delegates Join
APTA Colleagues
in March on Washington
Representatives from
the Colorado Chapter joined some 200 colleagues from throughout
the country in the APTA's annual "March on Washington."
Visiting all nine of Colorado's congressional offices in one day were:
Ira Gorman, PT, who serves as the Chapter's Federal Affairs Liaison;
Jennifer Hide, PT, who is co-chair of the Chapter's Governmental
Affairs committee; Randy Roesch, PT, member of APTA Board of
Directors, and Chapter Executive Director Ellen
Caruso.
Sponsored
annually by the APTA, participants are briefed on issues by APTA
governmental affairs staff members and hear from invited members of
Congress. The final day is devoted to meeting with members of the state congressional
delegations.
Among the issues discussed with
Colorado's elected officials were: direct access to physical therapy
by Medicare patients, repeal of the therapy cap on outpatient rehab
services, the inclusion of physical therapist students in the
national student loan forgiveness program, and
very importantly, the
inclusion of physical therapy in the new health care reform
proposals.
