COURSE
DESCRIPTION:
The online world has radically changed how
information is created, shared, and used. This reality is
especially true in health care where online information is
growing exponentially, where patients are looking for answers,
and individuals and organizations are developing innovative ways
to organize and leverage this flow of information.
This session will help
clinicians better understand the role that online resources have
in the health care environment. Armed with basic terminology and
fundamentals, session participants will be better prepared to
confidently explore and implement diverse technologies related
to searching, organizing and sharing information.
Technology now
allows the most geographically remote physical therapists to the same
information that others have.
SCHEDULE OF EVENTS:
Day 1: Defining the Evolution of
the Web, Push Information, Health 2.0
Day 2: Wikis,
Blogs, Social Media, Physio-pedia.com, Practical Skills Lab
COURSE OBJECTIVES:
At the completion of this course, the participant
will be able to:
-
Describe
the evolution of online technologies and resources;
-
Define the terms Web 2.0, Health 2.0, and
develop an understanding of how a collaborative, interactive
internet can influence professional development;
-
Identify
opportunities for non-traditional learning on the internet;
-
Improved ability to gather and organize
information with the goal of enhancing evidence-based practice
skills;
-
Define "push" information technology and
develop a customized solution using an aggregator software
program;
-
Provide examples of how innovators are
changing how health care consumers and providers are changing
traditional medicine;
-
Demonstrate online tools that organize and
share the seemingly overwhelming flow of information;
-
Develop a plan for implementing technology solutions at the
individual and organizational level.
