2011 Awards

2011 Pauline Cerasoli Academic & Clinical Excellence Award Presented to Meghan Bawn, SPT
Nomination letter written by Lisa Dannemiller PT, DSC PCS Senior Instructor, on behalf of the faculty of the University of Colorado Denver Physical Therapy Program.

It is a great privilege to nominate Meghan Bawn for the Pauline Cerasoli ACE award.  I have known Meghan since I joined the faculty of the University of Colorado Physical Therapy Program in October, 2008.  At that time she had been in the program for only 5 months of her first year; but even then, she stood out in her class as an exemplary student and role model.  At this time, nearly 2 ˝ years later, she continues to impress me and many others, clearly reflecting the qualities and spirit of the Pauline Cerasoli ACE award.

Meghan has earned a cumulative GPA of 3.769, through the fall of 2010.  This is one of the highest GPA’s of her cohort of upcoming 2011 graduates.  I have had the opportunity to serve as a course instructor for many courses throughout her physical therapy education.  I could always count on Meghan to reflect the pulse of the group, often volunteering summary comments, but also insightful questions that challenged her fellow students to consider further discussion.  All of her instructors view Meghan as an outstanding and well balanced student, with much more than academic excellence. 2011 Academic and Clinical Excellence Award for PTA Students  Presented to Jan Willem de Bruyn Kops, SPTA
Nomination letter written by Kris Mathwig, PT, MPS, Program Director, PTA Program, Pima Medical Institute.

It is with great pleasure that I write this letter to nominate Jan Willem de Bruyn Kops for the APTA Colorado Chapter Pauline Cerasoli “ACE” Student Award (PTA). I have known Jan since the time he began the program just over 1 year ago. He is currently in his fourth semester and will be graduating in September of this year. I have been his instructor, his advisor, and have worked with him on a number of occasions during Class President-Program Director meetings. In academia, it is not difficult to find students that reflect one or two of the criteria upholding the essence of the Pauline Cerasoli ACE award; but to have a student that truly reveals the character of all these qualities gives one a sense of illumination. Illumination of all a teacher could want in a student, but more so, all the possibilities of the places such talents could reach. Jan de Bruyn Kops has these qualities.

Jan demonstrates academic excellence with a cumulative GPA of 4.0. In the classroom, Jan has always been the one who questions, who takes it one step further, who brings it to the next level. He does this not to challenge, but to inquire and explore, and so to master a subject in his thirst for knowledge.

He has only completed one clinical practicum thus far, but received “excellent” in each criterion. He demonstrates the skill set of a student in one’s final clinical rotation. His Clinical Instructor stated that, “He is way beyond what one would expect from a Clinical I student in both skills and client interaction/comfort level with patients. Jan was a joy to have in the clinic.” Click here for complete letter.
