Colorado Chapter
Outstanding PTA for 2009

Mary Kelly, PTA  –

During her opening remarks Amy remarked how nice it was to see members here who are excited and passionate about the chapter and physical therapy. This year’s recipient of Colorado’s Outstanding PTA Award serves as a role model for physical therapist assistants and physical therapists alike, in her zeal to make a difference and to participate in any activity that will enhance the profession of physical therapy. Just get her started and you can immediately see her passion. She thrives on taking on a new challenge and learning all she can learn about her new endeavors.

She has been a physical therapist assistant since 1982 and a member of the APTA since 1981. Throughout this time she has maintained her involvement in the Association. Recently she has taken on two new roles. For the past three years she has participated in the role of secretary for the Clinical Educators Forum. In that role she has helped to keep leadership within that body organized, maintained mailing lists, and posted notices of upcoming meetings. During the meetings she consistently presents interesting topics and identifies current and relevant issues for discussion. I am told she is sure to include tips and guidelines for documentation at these meetings; one of her many passions in physical therapy. Most recently she has served the Association in the role of PTA Caucus Representative. When she agreed to run for the position she had very little idea of what the job entailed or what she would need to do in the role, but none-the-less she took that challenge head-on and has been an effective addition to the Colorado Delegation.

At her primary work place at the Colorado Physical Therapy Institute in Broomfield, her co-workers can readily see her passion for and commitment to the profession. The PTAs she works with during her per diem job at Longmont United Hospital look up to her because of her participation in our profession.

By now you have likely identified this year’s recipient of Colorado’s Outstanding Physical Therapist Assistant Award as Mary Kelly. Mary, let me be the first to congratulate you on this award. Congratulations!
