Colorado Chapter
Outstanding PT for 2009
Tamara S. Struessel PT, DPT, OCS, MTC
When I first learned who had been selected as this
year’s Outstanding Physical Therapist for the Colorado Chapter, I thought
there could not have been a better choice. This individual has been a
significant asset to the profession for years
especially
in the arenas of legislation, education and advocacy for the profession. She
has consistently strived for excellence in her own professional life, first
acquiring a bachelors degree, then a masters degree and finally her DPT in
2006. Along the way she also has earned her OCS and manual therapy
certification.
She currently sits on the Colorado State Dept. of Regulatory Agencies
Physical Therapy Advisory Committee and in that capacity has been appointed
to the Federation of State Boards of Physical Therapy committee forming a
national licensure exam. She is a recipient of the Bob Doctor Service Award
and has served on the Chapter’s Bob Doctor Memorial golf tournament
organizing student volunteers-despite the fact that she is by her own
admission not much of a golfer! Now that’s commitment!
She has also testified at legislative hearings on our behalf. Her academic
list of accomplishments is frankly too long to list here and apparently ever
growing.
Colleagues have described her in the following ways (and always with only
the utmost respect and conviviality):
- Having Integrity;
- Keeping up to date on newest thinking and techniques and applying them
clinically;
- Demanding the most of herself and therefore of others;
- Clients' welfare comes first;
- Huge help politically in getting the PT practice act changed for animals;
- Mediocrity is not OK;
- Willing to take the heat in standing up for things she believes are right;
- Innovative;
- Thinks outside the box;
- Tenacious;
- Opinionated, and
- Charming.
And I happen to know, a dog lover!
It is therefore with great pride and humble admiration that I present this
year’s Outstanding Physical Therapist to Dr. Tami Struessel.
