I have had the
privilege of knowing our recipient of this year's outstanding PTA award for
several years. I first heard of her years ago when she lived in a different
State and was serving PTA's
and
the profession of physical Therapy at the National level. Her dedication to
the profession of physical therapy never seems to tire. As I have tried to
promote PTA's in the State of Colorado and was feeling like I was hitting a
road block, she moved into our wonderful State with energy and has continued
to push not only myself but everyone along the way for the advancement and
recognition of the PT Assistant.
In Colorado she has served 2 terms as the PTA representative in the House of
Delegates, served as treasurer of the PTA
SIG and just recently took on the position of Chair of the PTA SIG. She has
assisted in setting up continuing education courses directed towards the PTA
in Colorado, and speaking during those sessions about concerns and issues
regarding the PTA at both the national level and state level.
Although I have not had the privilege of working with her clinically her
colleagues state she has a great rapport with her patients and her energy
lights up the room for both patients and colleagues. Her passion for the
field of physical therapy and commitment to APTA is inspirational to all.
It is with great honor and privilege that I announce this year's recipient
of the Outstanding PTA Award to Ms. Karen Ryan. --- Mary Chavez
