Bob Doctor 2008
PT Service Awards
October 25, 2008 -- This award, named for
a dear friend of many PT professionals and one of the most fantastic
Colorado Chapter volunteers of all time, recognizes APTA members
for their valuable and exceptional service to the APTA/Colorado
Chapter.
Today we will confer
that honor on chapter members:
Allison Schatz
Hildreth, PT, DPT
Mike Oliva,
PT
Phil Plante, PT, MA, MTC, COMT, FAAOMPT
Jessica Cozine-Lehman, PT, DPT
Staci Cost, PT, MTC, OCS
-- Allison Schatz
Hildreth, PT, DPT
--
Today's award
recipient earned her master's degree from Regis
University in 1999, followed by her DPT from Regis in
2004. An active Colorado Chapter member, she served many
years as member, then co-chair, of the Chapter's
Professional Development Committee. She represented
Colorado in the House of Delegates in 2007 and last year
served on the selection committees for the Bob Doctor
Research Grant and the Dorothy Hoag Scholarship Fund.
Five years ago, Dr. Allison Schatz Hildreth chose
Sirona as the name of her private practice in downtown
Golden. In Celtic mythology, Sirona was worshipped by
the ancient people of Germany as the goddess of healing,
usually associated with healing waters. Congratulations
Allison for using your healing skills as an active
member of our profession. |

-- Mike Oliva,
PT --
Politics
is a way of life for this year's first Bob Doctor award
recipient. He knows
the value of being politically active and he
shares his knowledge with an urgent, convincing message. He
promotes grass roots politics well before the elections ... by
encouraging his friends, family and PT colleagues (actually
anyone who will listen) to attend their local precinct caucus,
to donate to their favorite candidate's campaign fund, and to
volunteer to walk door to door for their favorite candidate. He
cheerfully offers advice and encouragement to others in the
profession who would like to become politically active. He works
hard for his chosen political party, but he never shows his
partisanship.
This physical therapist walks his political talk. Even though he
has been retired from work for many years, he has not retired
from his membership and involvement with the Government Affairs
Committee of the APTA Colorado Chapter. The Colorado PT
Political Action Committee was formed because of his persistent
and convincing arguments.
This award winner started working in physical therapy in 1953,
and earned his masters of public health in 1964. His last
position from 1979 to 1983 was as chief of Health Services
Delivery for Region VIII of the US public Health Service where
he made tremendous contributions to the PT profession.
Thank you Mike Oliva for leading us to the State Capitol on East
Colfax - where public policy decisions are made on a daily basis
- many of which affect physical therapists and our profession.
-- Phil Plante, PT,
MA, MTC, COMT, FAAOMPT --
Our next
Bob Doctor award recipient has many initials after his name --
PT, MA, MTC, COMT, FAAOMPT - each credential demonstrating his
keen interest and advanced study in his chosen profession.
This outstanding clinician is passionate about physical therapy
and shows it every day as he provides excellent and cutting edge
rehabilitation to the patients in his thriving outpatient
orthopedic practice. In his free time, he is active in the
cycling community and consults with the University of Colorado
cross country and track teams.
A faithful, long time member of the Colorado Chapter's
Government Affairs Committee, this award winner eagerly
volunteers to testify at legislative hearings and is very
effective in his one-on-one relationship building with his own
legislators...primarily by talking about his day to day clinical
experiences.
This award winner actually took his time getting his PT degree,
first graduating from UNC with a BS in Community Health
Education; followed four years later by a Masters in Sports
Science and Physical Education from DU, and another four years
later his BS in PT at Rockhurst College in Kansas City, MO.
Congratulations Phil Plante and thank you for your energy and
commitment. You exemplify the best of the best in our
profession.
-- Jessica Cozine-Lehman,
PT, DPT
--
The next recipient of the Bob Doctor Award has only been working
in physical therapy for four years, but you would never know it
by all of the contributions she has already made to the
profession.
A 2004 graduate of Regis University, this award winner jumped
right into one of the most difficult leadership positions in the
Colorado Chapter - that of chairing the Professional Development
Committee in charge of pulling off two statewide PT conferences
each year. Her ability to identify and obtain
outstanding
speakers has led to successful and dynamic conferences for our
Colorado members.
She has taken on this job with calm determination, while
continuing her education in the areas of manual therapy and
women's health. She didn't miss a beat when she welcomed her son
Luke into the world.
Congratulations, Dr. Jessica Cozine-Lehman. We are so fortunate
that you are a member of our leadership team.

Staci Cost, PT, MTC, OCS --
Our next Bob Doctor Award recipient combines her busy position
as manager
of a large outpatient PT practice in Denver with
instructing Pilates based rehabilitation to healthcare
professionals around the country. Specializing in spinal
disorders and chronic pathologies, this award winner
consistently contributes her energy and enthusiasm as a member
of the Colorado Chapter's Executive Committee, while raising two
small children.
She received her Bachelor's degree in Health Science with a
certificate in
Physical Therapy from California State
University, Northridge in 1995 and earned a Masters in Health
Science in 2006 from the University of St. Augustine, Florida.
In addition she completed her manual therapy certification (MTC)
from the University of St. Augustine, Florida in 2000 and is a
Board Certified Clinical Specialist in Orthopedic Physical
Therapy by the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties.
She assists with teaching at the University of Colorado Health
Sciences Center and
Staci Cost's quick smile, gentle nature, and high level of
professional ethics make her a deserving recipient of this
award. It is with great pleasure to present Staci Cost with this
award.
