Bob Doctor 2007
PT Service Awards
November 3, 2007 -- This award, named for
a dear friend of many PT professionals and one of the most fantastic
Colorado Chapter volunteers of all time, recognizes APTA members
for their valuable and exceptional service to the APTA/Colorado
Chapter.
Today we will confer
that honor on four chapter members:
Audrey M. Waldron,
PT
Jeremy J. Snyder, PT, DPT, CSCS
Tamara S. Struessel, PT, DPT, OCS
Amy Stone Hammerich, PT, DPT
-- Audrey M. Waldron,
PT --
Our
first Bob Doctor award recipient is like the Energizer Bunny -
she just keeps going and going. Her battery never runs down!
(On occasion she even dresses in pink, wears shades and blue
sandals and maybe even plays a drum. She is definitely COOL -
just like the well-known advertising icon.)
This physical
therapist shows up whenever there's a job to be done...
*** from
lobbying her elected representatives at the Statehouse to
walking the halls of our nation's capitol;
*** from
active participation in the Private Practice Section to
spearheading
the
Colorado Chapter's first ever Reimbursement Forum for insurance
case managers;
*** from
serving as Chapter president to preparing well for her position
representing our state at the APTA House of Delegates.
And this is all done
while running her very successful private practice in Boulder,
Colorado, where referrals come mostly from word of mouth and
physician colleagues.
There's not
time today to fully explain Audrey Waldron's contributions to
our profession and our Colorado Chapter. So we will just say
congratulations and thank you to a great colleague and dear
friend... and please keep on going....
-- Jeremy J. Snyder,
PT, DPT, CSCS --
Our
next award recipient isn't afraid to take on a challenge.
Especially if it relates in any way to his chosen profession of
physical therapy.
A few years ago he
saw the need for an active district in his part of the state. He
recognized the benefits of networking especially for those PTs
who live and work in the small rural communities of our state.
So when asked, he responded with vision and enthusiasm and took
the reins of the
sprawling Colorado Chapter's Southeast District. In this
position he has worked hard to bring quality and relevant
educational programming to our SE District members. In this
position, he has represented his District as a member of our
Board of Directors bringing his great ideas to the table.
A graduate of
Colorado College and Regis University with a Masters then his DPT,
Jeremy Snyder has made a huge mark on our profession in a short
time. Congratulations and thank you Jeremy.
-- Tamara S. Struessel,
PT, DPT, OCS --
Teacher,
mentor, peacemaker, thoughtful, level-headed, ... are all words
that could describe our next Bob Doctor Award recipient.
She has a special
talent of reaching out and bringing people of different opinions
together to work towards a common goal. As a member of the CU PT
Program's faculty, she is currently working to develop a student
mentoring program.
As co-chair of
the Chapter's Government Affairs Committee, she was a strong
proponent of the recent legislative action to authorize physical
therapists to
provide
PT to animals in collaboration with licensed veterinarians. The
result is that Colorado is the first state in the union to
accomplish this new practice niche - one that is within and
governed by the PT practice act.
Newly appointed to
the Department of Regulatory Agencies' PT Advisory Committee,
Tami Struessel has made great contributions to our Chapter
and our profession. And we expect many more years of the same.
Congratulations and thank you Tami.
-- Amy Stone
Hammerich, PT, DPT --
How
many academic degrees will this physical therapist seek and
obtain? From a Bachelors in Business with a double major in
Finance and Accounting she went on to earn her Certified Public
Accountant (CPA) credential. Then she pursued her Masters in
Physical Therapy degree and became a member of the first
transitional Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) class in Colorado.
She is now a PhD candidate at CU's in the Health and Behavioral
Science Department.
Not surprising, it
was in graduate school where her interest in the APTA started
when she was elected as Treasurer of the National Student
Assembly Board of
Directors.
This experience enabled her to participate in many of the
national conferences such as the Component Leadership Seminar,
Government Affairs Forum, Annual Conferences, Combined Sections,
and Student Conclaves.
From these
experiences she helped form the Colorado Chapter's Student
Special Interest Group where she served as Vice President. Amy
Stone Hammerich is now teaching PT students at Regis University
and contributes her financial expertise in her position as
treasurer of the Colorado Chapter. Congratulations and thank
you Amy. |
