Colorado Chapter
Outstanding PTA for 2006
–
Charles
Miltner, PTA –
This year’s outstanding PTA was a
student in the PTA program at Pueblo Community College, where
his dedication to his education and daughter as a single father
was evident. I still remember when he came to me before school
started to let me know he would be late for the first day of
classes because he couldn’t miss taking his daughter to her
first day of kindergarten.
As
a PTA, he has worked in South Carolina, Nevada and now in Colorado, He is also
a USA cycling level 2 coach that involves bike fitting, training and
performance testing. Along with that he is a part time lab instructor and
tutor for the PTA program at PCC, and a Clinical instructor. A couple of
quotes form PTs who nominating him for this award are: “He is a strong role
model for the profession, advancing his physical therapy knowledge and putting
forth a well qualified professional in physical therapy.” Another one is “In
all situations he develops a wonderful rapport with his patients and shows a
genuine interest in their total rehabilitation.”
His dedication
to his community and our profession is evident. As his daughter was growing up
he coached soccer, 4-H and continues to actively volunteer in his church. He
serves on the PTA advisory board at PCC, is a guest speaker for the PTA
program, a CI, has written an article for Pueblo’s Healthy Cells
magazine, and was a speaker at the first PTA SIG sponsored continuing
education course this past September, donating his time and talent to the SIG.
He has been a
member of APTA since 1993 and this past November received APTA’s Recognition
of Advanced Proficiency for PTAs, the first in Colorado.
Being able to be
this involved in his profession and community doesn’t happen without help and
he finds his support in his colleagues, his wife (Jackie) who will graduate
from college this Spring and his daughter (Amanda) who will start college this
fall.
I am honored to
give this award to Mr. Charles Miltner, PTA. -- Mary Chavez, PTA
