Bob Doctor
PT Service Awards
Five Colorado PTs were honored with the Chapter’s
prestigious Bob Doctor PT Service Award for 2003. Their introductions,
which were read during the award ceremony tell their story of
contributions well:
– Phil Stone –
This Bob Doctor Award recipient is a very civil person – in
fact, he is referred to as “a civilian” where he has worked
for 29 years as PT/Athletic Trainer for some of the finest
athletes in the world. After
all these years at the US Air Force Academy he’s still not a
commander general in anyone’s eyes but ours! When he received
the letter telling him he had won this award he was SO astounded
that he asked a colleague to please read the letter aloud to him
so he knew it was real. You see, that’s just the kind of guy
he is. He has contributed to the Association in so many
ways, yet he really cannot believe that he’s done anything to
deserve an award. He
is the person who we can always count on to write the letter to
his legislators; who is usually the first person to arrive at
the 7 a.m. Legislative Breakfast at the state capitol; and who
never misses a chance to praise the association and its good
work. Congratulations Phil Stone. This is a small token
of our appreciation for your years of exceptional service to the
Colorado Chapter of the APTA.
– Janet Briggs Wells –
Even though she hasn’t had a full
night’s rest since August, this Bob Doctor Award recipient
said “yes” without hesitation when asked to take on a brand
new leadership role for the Colorado Chapter. And little Baby
Morgan will grow up with tons of love and affection from her mom
who has chosen to balance her PT career with her family and
still devote as much time as possible to her professional
association. A graduate of Boston University, she has
coordinated very successful runs, health fairs and continuing
education courses for the district that she chairs. She works as
Director of Outpatient Physical Therapy at Durango Sports Club
and still is willing to take time to be the Secretary of the
Colorado Chapter. Thank you Janet Briggs Wells for
showing us that it is possible to do it all and do it all
well.
– Gail Molloy –
If you ever want to put on a FABULOUS
continuing education course, you should ask this Bob Doctor Award
recipient to help you. She will make the design, planning and
implementation of the course look so easy that you will think that
it is! With 19 years of PT experience, she gets lots of experience
in seminar planning as a member of the faculty of the North
American Institute of Orthopedic Manual Therapy. Spending most of
her time at Physical Therapy & Injury Specialists in Denver,
she is working on her doctorate of health science at Andrews
University. The Colorado Chapter benefited from her outstanding
organizational skills in the Fall of 2002 which resulted in the
best attendance in many years and the highest possible
evaluations. Thank you Gail Molloy for your expertise, your
creativity and your enthusiasm. We are glad you are on OUR team.

Kelly Martin –
An avid learner would be a good description of this Bob
Doctor Award winner. Early in her career, she explored in earnest the various
physical therapy techniques to find the one that she liked the best and she
has devoted the past several years to obtaining her chosen certification. She
stated in a Colorado Chapter newsletter article that a recent experience made
her remember to THINK before treating. What a simple but often times forgotten
message! As Clinic Supervisor at Memorial Hospital Outpatient Rehab in
Colorado Springs, this physical therapist always has a friendly greeting for
her colleagues but be assured that there will be a serious topic to discuss
shortly after. She has served as SE District Chair and Chapter Secretary and
is currently the editor of the chapter’s on-line newsletter. Kelly Martin,
you exemplify what is so remarkable about our profession. Thank you for your
tremendous contributions.

Chriss Parks –
First
you hear the joke --- then you see his sensitivity. Next you join in the fun
– then you understand his passion. Next you see the casual – finally you
understand his depth. Our next
Bob Doctor Award recipient has a passion that won’t quit for his chosen
profession. But he takes his enthusiasm and love of people far beyond PT and
the APTA. He shows us how to make a difference in the community as he
volunteers to help the local school system, the Rotary and the ski patrol.
Most of his patients are on a first name basis in his Steamboat Springs
mountain resort practice and it’s been said that he never missed a Colorado
Chapter board meeting – not even the week after his baby was born two months
early and was in the hospital Intensive Care Unit. He has represented us well
at the House of Delegates and has served as treasurer and president of the
chapter. Chriss Parks, you bring passion for the profession, leadership
and the much needed fun to the APTA. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
